SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A number of people in the Ozarks
are getting robo calls and texts from what appears to be a local bank. That
bank, however, wants you to know it’s a scam.
The calls and texts are going to
both customers and non-customers of Great Southern Bank, alerting them to a
security problem with their debit card.
The recorded message says, “Hello.
This is an official notification from Great Southern Bank, informing you that
your debit MasterCard has been locked due to security issues. To unlock it,
please press one now to be transferred to our securities department.”
A statement from the bank’s website
says these calls are not coming from the bank and if you get one to hang up
immediately and don’t give out your account information.
“We have seen several different
phone numbers that these calls are coming from,” writes a bank
spokesperson. “As a reminder, Great Southern Bank will never initiate
communication with a customer or non-customer in this manner.”
One of the numbers is 895-458-7534. The bank suggests that if you have received this call or
text and provided any of your Great Southern Bank account or debit card
information, to contact its customer service Department immediately at 1-800-749-7113.
