Several area bank customers are experiencing more phishing or fraudulent messages about their accounts, BancorpSouth officials said Tuesday.
In many cases, the automated phone calls are made under the pretext of activating a debit card. The caller asks the recipient to provide a debit or credit card number and PIN for identification.
The messages generally say that the recipient’s card number has been deactivated in an effort to have the person call a phone number or go on a website to provide card information.
BankcorpSouth said these calls are not legitimate, adding that bank officials will never ask for personal or account information by these means.
BancorpSouth customers receiving one of these suspicious calls regarding credit or debit calls should contact BancorpSouth’s Customer Service Center at 888-797-7711, or a BancorpSouth of?ce.
