POLOKWANE – A 60-year-old Warrant Officer, Mfundisi Benneth Kubayi, attached to Giyani SAPS, appeared before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, on a charge of corruption following his arrest by members of the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit.
The court appearance stems from allegations that in July 2020, the police officer allegedly misrepresented that he would assist a complainant with the processing of a liquor licence application and received payment for the purported service. The complainant later discovered that the application had not been properly processed and reported the matter to the police.
The matter was referred to the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit for investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, the case was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who authorised the issuing of a J50 warrant of arrest. The suspect was arrested on Monday, 27 July 2026.
During his court appearance, the accused was granted bail of R5 000. The matter was remanded to 28 August 2026 for a Regional Court date.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, welcomed the court appearance.
“Corruption undermines public confidence in the criminal justice system and has no place within the South African Police Service. We remain committed to ensuring that every allegation of corruption is thoroughly investigated and that those found to have acted unlawfully are held accountable,” said Major General Scheepers.
