The owner of an Ulster County medical transportation service company faces up to 15 years in prison for stealing over $1.1 million in a scheme in which he inflated charges and billed Medicaid for services never provided.
Muhammad Khan, 40, the owner of MAK Limo, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree grand larceny in Ulster County Court, state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and county District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji said.
In a statement, they said Khan billed the Medicaid program for individual rides that were actually group rides and for rides that never happened. Additionally, patients were paid to use MAK Limo’s services and facilitate the fraud, DiNapoli said.
The crimes occurred from November 2020 to August 2024. Khan faces up to 15 years in prison at sentencing on Sept. 9, and must pay $1.1 million in restitution, DiNapoli said.
