I recently received an enquiry from someone looking to source prepaid meters from: udmsmartech.com. I am hoping that my Bullshitometer is proven wrong. Let me know in the comments section what you think, please.
My concern about the message is in reaction to numerous phone calls from these two numbers: 0843623898, 0767689132 and 0418239850
Plus my email enquiry to “sales@udmsmartech.com” remains unanswered.
I, Alan, have the following comments on this udmsmartech.com:
I recently received numerous phone calls from the same person using two different numbers enquiring about the supply of 350 UDMT400 Multi Phase Smart Meters and the comment was that I was this person’s last resort.
Yes, we do deal in pre-paid meters so I asked for the caller to send some details so that I could source the meters as they are not an item I am familiar with.
Doing a quick Google gave me the info and a PORT ELIZABETH address of the ‘supplier’ – UDM Smartech – Walmer Office Park, 15 Heugh Road, Port Elizabeth.
The person enquiring sent me an image obviously taken from the udmsmartech.com web site and I wondered to myself why they would contact me when the contact details were right there on the site?
The contact number on the UDM Smart Tech web site is a VOIP one and the gentleman at the other end of the line immediately became cagey when I mentioned that my Bullshitometer had been highly engaged along with my asking him to confirm that he was in Port Elizabeth. Having recently dealt with a similar situation I embarked on a few more tests of the veracity of the claims made by UDM Smart Tech.
Visiting their web site the meters on display on the front page are not South African in origin, the company claims that their web site copyright covers the period 2014 to 2018 but the domain was only registered on 3 September 2017. In addition the domain is a .com (not .co.za) one AND has Privacy Protect enabled – not the actions of a legitimate business based in South Africa.
In addition it seems as though ANY Search for the requested meter only points to the UDM Smart Tech web site and nowhere else. For example – a Google search for Joy211 – brings up one of the main retailers (Straton) plus a host of others including the manufacturer.
AND – the amount quoted per meter was strange – R850.00 including VAT. The ‘salesman’ first said R850.00 excluding and then changed his mind. Our 3 phase meters are considerably higher in price.
ALSO – the ‘salesman’ said that they supply private individuals AND registered electrical contractors.
Strange behaviour and I am hoping to be proven wrong.
