The e-mail from ‘SingNet’ asks users to provide their password within five days or risk having their accounts shut down.
According to telco SingTel which operates the SingNet broadband service, there is no such request.
‘Please note that these e-mails are part of an illegal phishing scam to obtain customers’ personal information and passwords. They are not issued by SingNet or SingTel, and we advise our customers to ignore them,’ said a statement on the telco’s Facebook page.
Phishing is an attempt to mine data such as usernames and passwords by masquerading as a trustworthy entity.
