SINGAPORE: SingTel has warned its customers not to respond to emails asking for their personal information and password, as the emails are part of an illegal phishing scam which the company is investigating.
The telco posted on its Facebook page Tuesday that some SingNet email users have been receiving an email from “SINGNET” requesting for their password within five working days to avoid having their email accounts terminated.
SingTel said these emails are not issued by SingNet or SingTel, and reiterated that SingNet would never request for customer’s password as this is strictly confidential.
SingTel said it has suspended the email account from where the scam emails were sent, and are working with the owner to investigate the issue.
It added that it has not received any reports of customers falling for the scam.
The telco advised customers to ignore emails from unfamiliar sources and exercise caution when providing personal details online and in competitions, lucky draws, surveys and feedback forms.
Customers who may have responded to the email can have their passwords reset via the company’s website.
