SIMSBURY, CT (WFSB) –
A new phishing scam has Simsbury Police again warning residents not to give out account information.
Weeks after a phone scam plagued the Simsbury Bank, a new texting scam has popped up, and police say they have taken numerous calls over the past few weeks from individuals who received cryptic text messages.
Officials say messages like the following have been sent to area residents.
[[ALERT] [FROM] [SIMSBURY BANK]] PLEASE CALL US AT 8607916889 TO LEARN HOW YOUR ACCOUNT IS AFFECTED.
Or
[[ALERT] [FROM] [SIMSBURY BANK]] PLEASE CALL US AT 8606977113 TO LEARN HOW YOUR ACCOUNT IS AFFECTED.
Police say these text messages are fraudulent attempts to scam people into providing personal identifying information.
The provided telephone numbers have a recorded message from “Professional Property Management” and refer the caller to another telephone number if they are interested in sales, locked out of their residence or need additional assistance.
Another provided telephone number claims to be the bank’s fraud department and requests a 16-digit account number.
Simsbury Bank has posted a reminder on their website at www.simsburybank.com that they will never call, text or e-mail you and ask you to provide specific card, account or PIN numbers.
Simsbury Police Department Detective Matthew Christian is currently investigating this scam. He can be reached at (860) 658-3141.
