If you receive a text message or phone call requesting credit card numbers or other banking and personal information, the best thing to do is ignore it.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that a man reported having received a phishing text message stating, “The CREDIT UNION CENTER ALERT: Your CARD has been DEACTIVATED.”
According to the man, the text message urged him to call a number which connects to a computer-generated voice prompting the caller to leave a credit card number.
“NEVER give out this information to a caller no matter the message or number….your credit card company KNOWS your credit card numbers,” the Sheriff’s Office advised.
