LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Jefferson County Public Schools district is moving forward with plans to eliminate 61 elementary school bookkeeper positions, and the president of the union representing those workers says the decision could open schools to potential fraud and theft.
“There’s so many things that can happen without having that person who is overseeing those types of day-to-day activities,” Nicole Humphrey, JCAESP AFSCME 4011 president, said.
Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) plans to replace the 61 bookkeeper positions with 22 central office jobs. Humphrey pointed out those central office employees would earn roughly double what the bookkeepers currently make and would travel to five or six schools to collect and deposit funds.
