GAUTENG – Martin Mochabi (31) was arrested for theft and fraud by members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption investigation (SCI) on Tuesday, 09 January 2024 at his place of residence in Boksburg, Gauteng. It is alleged that from June 2023 and December 2023 the suspect, a financial administrator fraudulently paid R5.7 million from the employer’s bank account into the bank accounts of fictitious suppliers Enelo (PTY) LTD and TNA (PTY) LTD and subsequently that amount would be paid back into the account of the suspect wherein the suspect would then pay the bogus suppliers kickbacks.
The financial institution conducted an investigation through its fraud investigation department and the matter was reported to the Hawks’ SCI in Johannesburg which led to the arrest of the suspect and a Mercedes Benz V300 Vito was confiscated.
The suspect appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate court on Wednesday, 10 January 2024 and the case has been postponed to Wednesday, 17 January 2024 for a formal bail application.
