ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) – The University of Michigan is warning everyone about email scams that are targeting personal information.
7 Action News is told there’s been 150 victims affected so far, and there could be many more.
The scammers are apparently setting up fake Google forms, and then sending phishing emails that link to the forms.
Some of the phony emails actually look like they’re from the IRS; others appear to be from real faculty at other schools.
To avoid the scam, users need to refrain from entering private information into Google forms.
They should also hover over email with a mouse, before clicking on it..
University officials say if you do that, it’s a good way to see where the message is really coming from.
