In 17 March 2026, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), by agreement with Mr Johannes Lodewicus Du Plessis (“Du Plessis”) and JLD Investments CC (Registration Number 2010/171827/23) (“JLD Investments”), appointed a curator in terms of section 5(10) of the Financial Institutions (Protection of Funds) Act, No. 28 of 2001 (“FI Act”) for a portion of the financial services business of Du Plessis and JLD Investments. The FSCA published a press release on 31 March 2026 to this effect, which remains publicly accessible.
As part of the curatorship process, Du Plessis and JLD Investments undertook to cooperate with the appointed curator and to refrain from any conduct that could obstruct the process. The curatorship is aimed at safeguarding and ultimately returning investor and client monies.
Despite this undertaking, the FSCA has become aware that Du Plessis has engaged in conduct that hinders the curatorship process. Specifically, Du Plessis is prohibited from engaging directly with clients, who are instead encouraged to liaise exclusively with the appointed curator. It has come to the FSCA’s attention that Du Plessis continues to maintain contact with clients, contrary to the agreed terms.
Members of the public who invested funds with Du Plessis and JLD Investments, or who have information relevant to the financial services business of Du Plessis and/or JLD Investments, are urged to contact the appointed curator, Mr Aubrey Magerman, via email at aubrey@magermans.co.za or telephonically at 083 461 5294.
The FSCA continues its investigation into the affairs of Du Plessis and JLD Investments.
While the investigation is ongoing and no findings have yet been made, the FSCA will monitor the situation closely and take further action as necessary.
