Earlier when commenting on a similar warning I noted that; “You either have to be incredibly brave or incredibly stupid to operate a cloning scheme using the FSCA and a known employee.” Now I may have to add to that comment by saying; “You either have to be incredibly brave or incredibly stupid or incredibly suicidal to operate a cloning scheme using the FSCA and a known employee.”
The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) warns the public to be cautious when dealing with individuals impersonating the FSCA and its Deputy Commissioner, Ms Katherine Gibson (Ms Gibson).
The impersonators appear to be operating a “cloning scam”, where they assume the identity of the FSCA and Ms Gibson to defraud the public. The impersonators collect funds from members of the public with a false promise to facilitate payment of funds due to them.
The FSCA does not request payments from members of the general public under any circumstances. This means that members of the general public should never pay any person purporting to represent the FSCA, including to purportedly facilitate the payment of funds due to them.
The FSCA and Ms Gibson deny any involvement or association with the impersonators.
The impersonators were unavailable to FSCA queries on the contact details provided.
The FSCA is investigating this matter and urges the public to be vigilant.
