The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) warns the public to be cautious when dealing with individuals impersonating the FSCA, and its Commissioner, Mr Unathi Kamlana (Mr Kamlana).
The impersonators appear to be operating a “cloning scam”, where they assume the identity of the FSCA, Mr Kamlana and other agencies such as the Financial and Fiscal Commission to defraud the public. The impersonators have created a fake FSCA email address, through which they are contacting members of the public both locally and internationally.
In the email, the impersonators request payment to facilitate the release of funds, purportedly due to the recipients of the email. The FSCA does not request payments from members of the public to facilitate the release of funds. The public is warned against responding to such requests. The FSCA and Mr Kamlana deny any involvement or association with the impersonators.
The FSCA is investigating this matter and urges the public to be vigilant. The impersonators were unavailable to FSCA queries on the contact details provided.
