The Connecticut Better Business Bureau is warning businesses to beware of a phishing scam from cyber criminals posing as the BBB. According to the warning, the cyber criminals send an e-mail disguised as correspondence from the BBB asking recipients to open an attached questionnaire. The attachment then turns out to deliver malware to the user’s computer. The BBB has contacted its security vendor and initiated a takedown of the malicious sites behind the scam. According to the BBB there are three ways to identify the scam e-mails. The “From” line reads “BBB Accreditation Services” firstnamelastname@newyork.bbb.org, the subject line references “BBB SBQ Form” along with random reference numbers, and the malicious attachment is labeled “BBB SBQ Form.zip.”
