Attorney General Liz Murrill on Wednesday announced 21 arrests related to Medicaid fraud and abuse of patients that are part of a state and nationwide crackdown on fraud in the program.
Many of the arrests relate to Louisiana providers accused of submitting false claims to receive Medicaid reimbursement for services they did not actually provide, according to a release from Murrill’s office. The release says the frauds involve sums ranging from $500 to $100,000, though most are between $5,000 and $10,000.
“One of my top priorities has been rooting out fraud and holding accountable individuals and companies who try to cheat the system,” Murrill said during a press conference at the State Capitol. “Every dollar that is stolen by fraud is a dollar that is taken away from a child, a senior or a family that relies on these critical services and support.”
