PADUCAH, Ky. (KFVS) – A western Kentucky pharmacist was sentenced to prison for his role in a $2M health care fraud scheme.
On November 3, 2025, 47-year-old Michael Shawn Boaz of Clinton, Ky. pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud and fraudulent prescriptions.
According to court documents, Boaz and his co-conspirator, 42-year-old Christopher Clayton Augustus, fraudulently billed health care benefit programs for customers at two pharmacies in Ky.
From 2017 to 2021, they caused just over $2M in losses by submitting claims for fraudulent and unauthorized prescriptions.
Authorities say Boaz added boutique vitamins to customers’ prescription orders and claimed they were free. However, he billed their health care providers between $1K and $6K for each bottle of vitamins.
