Anyone registered with HMRC has been warned to be on their guard against fraud after a spate of phishing emails.
Taxpayers are being hoodwinked into handing over bank, national insurance and income details by messages suggesting that they are owed a tax refund.
And HMRC is not the only institution that scammers are targeting, with reports this week of another spate of emails purporting to be from TV Licensing, also offering refunds.
