Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is warning customers today of phishing emails that may seek personal and credit information.
“There was a false email sent to a number of people this morning claiming to be from Walmart.com. This email looks like a confirmation of a purchase made on Walmart.com, but is actually a phishing email attempting to gather information from the recipient,” the company said in a statement. “Again, this email is not from Walmart.com and it is important that recipients do not click on any links in the email or respond in any way. We are investigating the source of the email and working with appropriate authorities.”
Walmart (NYSE: WMT) is Arizona’s largest private employer, and has a regional headquarters in Phoenix and stores across the state.
Phishing scams that try to trick bank, retail and other customers to divulge personal or credit card information are not new, but Wal-Mart deemed it necessary today to issue a warning.
