BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A local waitress is facing fraud charges for allegedly stealing a customer’s credit card information.
Now the victim is speaking out for the very first time since police linked the waitress to the four fraudulent purchases totaling more than $1,500.
Police said Ashley Wakeling, 22, a local waitress, got creative with how she was going to pay her car payment. She allegedly stole a customer’s credit card information.
“She was actually using my card to charge car payments,” said Robert Camche.
Camche is the owner of a local manufacturing company. In June he treated his employees to a lunch at the Bru’s Room Sports Grill on Congress Avenue in Boynton Beach.
“And when lunch was over I gave her my credit car to pay for everyone and we left,” Camche said.
They left, but reports said the waitress kept his credit card information.
“When she left the table she went into a back area, it’s only a matter of seconds for someone to write down 16 numbers, have my name, the expiration date and the security code on the back,” said Camche.
She reportedly racked up more than $1,500 worth of car payment charges for months. Camche didn’t notice it. His company book keeper didn’t pick up on it. His bank didn’t even alert him.
“I’m not surprised that they didn’t catch it. It was just a tad under 400 dollars a month,” said Camche.
The Bru’s Room GM is defending the restaurant’s reputation.
“In the 14 years I’ve worked for Bru’s Room I’ve never seen anything like this as far as credit card fraud goes,” said the manager.
When the car loan servicing company found out about all this they repossesed the waitress’s car. Boynton Beach police arrested her at the restaurant and she’s facing fraud charges.Waitress accused of stealing, using customer’s credit card
