Office workers in the UK are being bombarded by phishing emails, a new study has revealed.
The study, commissioned by anti-phishing training company PhishMe, found that almost 60 per cent of office workers receive some form of phishing email each day, with six per cent of them getting ten in their inbox on a daily basis.
Phishing emails intend to fool the recipient into infecting their own system by doing something dangerous such as clicking on a link or attachment that is disguised as genuine content.
Responding to phishing emails could allow hackers access to the network allowing personal and sensitive information to be acquired.
Vice-president of product management and services at PhishMe Scott Greaux said: “Clearly technical controls are failing to stop these messages as they pass through the system.”
He said educating users is important and that adding “human sensors” to the security infrastructure is necessary in improving overall security.
These findings highlight the need for businesses to employ people in IT security jobs, so as to reduce the threat of phishing scams.
