U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley announced on March 26 that she has tapped two seasoned prosecutors, including the deputy chief of her major crimes unit, to lead a new “benefit and voter fraud” team.
Foley’s office said in a press release that the team was being formed “in response to the rampant fraud being uncovered” in Massachusetts.
Its mission will be to “actively and aggressively root out benefit fraud in Massachusetts, including SNAP fraud, MassHealth fraud, child care subsidy fraud and voter fraud, just to name a few,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office wrote, adding that a hotline, 1-855-SCAM-MA-1, “has been established for members of the public to report suspicion of benefit fraud.”
