If you have a TxTAG be leery of emails from collection agencies. TxTag is alerting customers to emails that claim drivers have unpaid tolls.
Sarah Marshall opened her email last Saturday and didn’t like what she saw.
“You’ve driven on a toll road and you owe money,” said Marshall.
A few days later, the Austin woman got a similar email.
“You owe on a toll, and that was from a collection agency, so that really concerned me,” said Marshall.
Both emails looked suspicious. So Marshall checked the TxTag website and found an alert warning customers.
“And I was concerned,” said Marshall.
She reached out to the TxTag Customer Service Center.
“When I tried to call TxTag I couldn’t get through, it was busy,” said Marshall.
KEYE TV was her next call. We got her in touch with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
“He’s going to take your call and hopefully get this straightened out for you,” said reporter Bettie Cross.
Meanwhile, KEYE TV took a closer look at the emails. The link that’s supposed to take Marshall to her invoice, actually takes her to a “How to Blog” website.
“I was a little concerned that I could be getting some type of virus,” said Marshall.
TxDOT has the same worry and is warning TxTag customers not to open or respond to the emails.
Sarah Marshall says, “I want to take care of it.”
TxDOT says it does not look like there are any problems with her TxTag account. For her, no response to the emails is the best one.
