As the deferred action
program begins, officials are on alert for fraud.
Whether it’s fake identification
or fake school documents, there is a lot of concern that those who don’t fall
into the age category to apply for deferred action could fake the paperwork.
It is a big concern. Congress
has released a long list of documents that you can submit to prove your
residency here. Everything from your passport to school records, hospital
bills, even your rent and utility receipts.
All of these documents
will be carefully examined by fraud investigators. In fact, we are told
that the officials are actually setting up a division devoted exclusively for
detecting and preventing fraud. They plan to hire more officers for this.
Those who submit fraudulent
documents will be called in for interviews and could face criminal prosecution
or even immediate deportation.
We spoke to several
undocumented citizens and heard from attorneys today who all say they plan to
play by the rules.
