The Provincial Organised Crime Unit, supported by Klerksdorp Crime Prevention, arrested Amogelang Moleme (24) and Raphael Sitoe (39) in Klerksdorp on Friday, 15 May 2026, on charges of fraud and possession of suspected stolen property.
The arrests followed information received indicating that the duo allegedly issued a fraudulent order form to a Klerksdorp business, pretending to be representatives of a broadcasting authority in order to purchase electrical wiring. The suspects allegedly collected the ordered wiring but were intercepted and arrested by police shortly after the collection. Stolen wiring, estimated at more than R200 000.00, was confiscated, along with two vehicles allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The duo appeared before the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court for their first appearance on Monday, 18 May 2026, and were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Monday, 25 May 2026. In the meantime, the investigation team linked the suspects to nine more similar fraud and theft cases reported at businesses in Klerksdorp. They are expected to appear for the third time before the same court on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
Any business owners in the Klerksdorp area who may have been defrauded in a similar manner are requested to contact Col Jacob Sebatane of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit on 071 481 2911. Alternatively, they can contact their nearest police station, phone Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or make use of the MySAPS App on their smartphones.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, commended the members for swiftly arresting the duo and once again urged members of the public and the business community to exercise extreme caution when approached for business transactions. Fraudsters often pretend to be employees of well-known businesses and government entities, using fraudulent credentials to deceive suppliers. Prompt reporting of suspicious activities to law enforcement, as in this case, can prevent financial losses and assist police in bringing perpetrators to justice.
