The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the arrest of six Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) members who, along with four South African Police Service (SAPS) members, appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court today on charges of alleged theft and fraud.
The ten officers conducted a raid on a shop in Edenvale in June and allegedly failed to register all the seized goods at the police station.
The items seized included R35 000 in cash, cigarettes valued at R150 000 and pain tablets worth R5 000.
EMPD members implicated in such cases further erode public trust in the Metro Police and unfairly tarnish the reputation of honest officers.
The Freedom Front Plus demands that stringent action be taken if the accused are found guilty, to serve as a deterrent to other EMPD members.
FF+ Manifesto on National security: Protecting national security.
What is Fraud? “Fraud” is any activity that relies on deception in order to achieve a gain. Fraud becomes a crime when it is a “knowing misrepresentation of the truth or concealment of a material fact to induce another to act to his or her detriment” (Black’s Law Dictionary). In other words, if you lie in order to deprive a person or organization of their money or property, you’re committing fraud.
