Swift Current woman was sentenced this week after taking thousands of dollars in donations that were meant to go to a grieving mother.
Rebecca Munroe attended Swift Current Provincial Court in person on Wednesday, pleading guilty to one count of theft after the Crown amended what was initially a fraud charge.
The 35-year-old received a nine-month conditional discharge, is required to serve 50 hours of community service by February 2027, must participate in personal counselling, and is required to pay a $100 victim fine and surcharge within the next month.
As she had previously paid the complainant $8,200, an excess of what was owed, no restitution was imposed. The action was also highlighted as a mitigating factor.
“The Crown would never recommend a discharge had she not paid the restitution in full before this,” said Crown prosecutor Greg Lee.
