SPENCER, Iowa | Police in Spencer, Iowa, on Wednesday urged area residents to guard their credit card information after recent reports of telephone scammers.
Several Spencer residents reported getting phone calls from possible scammers asking for credit card information, police said Wednesday.
Cardholders should never give credit card details or any other personal information to someone over the phone, police said.
Scammers often glean personal information to sound more authenticate during the call.
“These callers are very convincing and may already have enough of your information to make them seem legitimate,” Spencer Chief Mark Lawson said in a statement.
Anyone with concerns should contact their local police department.
