“Ring and Run”, “Dial and Disconnect”, and “One Ring” are the nicknames for a telephone scam you need to be aware of.
The call will be from a number you don’t know. It will ring once or wait until you pick up then hang up. But don’t call back! The number could be a part of the scam. Criminals establish the number as an international premium service number, so your rate can exceed $20 just for the first minute.
Potential area codes used in the scam are 473, 809, 284, 649, and 879. If you recognize the number, it is safe to pick up.
