PENINSULA DAILY NEWS’ Newsroom has received a number of emails warning of a scam involving Sequim-based Olypen.com, the No. 1 Internet provider on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Here’s what one of our readers wrote us (unfortunately, no reply at Olypen, but there’s nothing about any email upgrade at its website and there seems to be no question this is a scam):

Earlier I received an e-mail ostensibly coming from Olypen telling me
that they were updating their systems and that my e-mail would be
delayed unless I responded with my log-in, password, name, etc.
What follows is the e-mail I received. Lots of typos which is what gave it
away.
I tried to contact Olypen, but of course it’s the weekend so
they’re closed. Just beware.
Here’s their e-mail:
Dear Olypen.com User
This mail is to inform all our valued customers that we are currently
upgrading our Admin database, e-mail Center and expanding e-mail quota
limit to 5.5 GB. All incoming mails are currently delayed, you are required
to upgrade your mail box and expand your e-mail quota limit to 5.5 GB
before you can continue to use your e-mail.you are required to complete
your details below and send it to us.This information would be required to
verify and upgrade e-mail account to avoid being closed. Please clicking on
the reply button;

Password:
Your account will remain active after you have successfully confirmed your
account to the monitoring Center.
