Cape Town – National carrier South African Airways (SAA) has warned its customers to be aware of a phishing scam attempting to get their credit card, voyager log-in details, as well as personal information.
SAA sent out an email notification informing its customers that a phishing scam was doing the rounds.
“The scam involves e-mails with the subject given as: Passenger Itinerary Receipt, “thankingâ€? customers for their purchase, stating that their booking is confirmed, giving a booking reference number, as well as the credit card charge and then asking the customer to follow a link,” the airline stated in the email notification.
“We would like to advise you that these emails are not from South African Airways (SAA), or our Customer Care department as is wrongfully stated in the email.”
“The email, supposedly from the airline, has a link to an Internet
banking sign-on page, or a page requesting any personal or banking
information, but it is not from SAA.”
The airline advised customers to delete the fake emails immediately and to not enter any personal information, irrespective of how authentic the emails may appear.
Clicking on the link would take customers to a fraudulent website where banking details, including a PIN or customer selected PIN may be
compromised, the airline warned.
SAA confirmed in the email that it was not the only company being targeted by the phishing scam.
