According to Best Buy, phishing attacks by hackers are increasing in huge numbers, so people need to protect their data more than ever these days.
Brian Caldwell, the General Manager of Quincy’s ETC ComputerLand, says there has been an increase in phishing attacks due to more genuine looking emails and attachments from hackers.
Caldwell says sometimes the hackers are after bank account numbers or passwords, but sometimes the hackers are just using your computer to hack into another one.
“They can generally get thousands – if not millions – of other computers, typical home computers with good Internet connections and tell them at any given time to attack something,” Caldwell said. “And they’re usually trying to break into this something else, like a government agency or other high-value target.”
Caldwell says to protect yourself, you need to clean or scan your computer with multiple layers of malware protection.
