Ohio hospitals accused of fraudulent billing for gender affirming care

• The Department of Health and Human Services released a report on Aug. 13 listing hospitals, several in Ohio, that allegedly used incorrect billing codes to make money off from gender-affirming care.
• The report claims that Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s, Akron Children’s Hospital and Dayton Children’s Hospital prescribed puberty blockers for unspecified endocrine disorders.
• Industry experts have denied the idea that gender-affirming care provides a financial incentive. Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio called the report “a false political attack.”
