CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Former Lowcountry attorney and member of the South Carolina House of Representatives Marvin Pendarvis pleaded guilty Wednesday to nine fraud-related charges after originally entering a not guilty plea in November.
Pendarvis changed his plea Wednesday afternoon from not guilty to guilty pursuant to a plea agreement for nine of his 10 counts, including four counts of wire fraud, three counts of aggravated identity theft and two counts of money laundering.
Pendarvis, a prominent attorney and activist, was indicted in November after prosecutors alleged he orchestrated a scheme to defraud multiple clients by negotiating and receiving civil settlement payouts without their knowledge or approval on at least four occasions. He is also accused of forging clients’ signatures on settlement release forms.
