Neteller Phishing Scheme Warning Issued By NC Fraud Taskforce

North Carolina– Thursday, the NC Fraud Taskforce issued a warning about internet schemers pretending to be with Neteller, a firm used by many consumers to make payments online.

Several banks and credit unions around the country are issuing similar warnings this week to their customers.

Here is the warning: Recent “phishing” emails are trying to lure computer users with a “notice” about a $47,000 payment that is being credited to their account.

The emails invite recipients to click a hyperlink in the body of the email and enter the password for their account in order to receive further details. These bogus emails are from customer_service@cm.netteller.com and have the subject line “Net Teller Watch Notice.”

They are not from Neteller. If you receive one, investigators say delete it immediately. DO NOT click on the embedded links. This will transmit spyware and other malware into your computer. If you have clicked the link, change your account passwords immediately and run a security scan on your computer.

Fraud officers said notify your financial institution immediately if you think your account might have been compromised.
