BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WBMA) — A 45-year-old man from Haleyville has pleaded guilty to fraudulently voting in multiple elections despite not being a U.S. citizen, federal prosecutors said.
Officials said U.S. Attorney Phillip W. Williams Jr. announced that Homero Ramos, a Mexican man and lawful permanent resident, pleaded guilty this week before U.S. District Judge Edmund G. LaCour Jr. to two counts of fraudulent voting.
According to the indictment, Ramos never obtained U.S. citizenship but registered to vote and cast ballots even though he knew only U.S. citizens are permitted to vote under Alabama law. Prosecutors said Ramos voted in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections.
