State Medicaid Fraud Control Units had 368 criminal and civil cases open against assisted living communities at the end of fiscal year 2025, according to the Medicaid Fraud Control Units Annual Report: Fiscal Year 2025 report, released Friday by the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General.
Of those open cases, 281 criminal cases and 10 civil cases were related to resident abuse or neglect, and 50 criminal cases and 27 civil cases involved fraud.
Regarding cases closed in FY 2025, MFCU efforts resulted in 12 criminal convictions involving assisted living communities.
