Police hold 20-year-old after raiding address on the North Circular Road
A man has been arrested after police raided an address in Neasden today in connection with a major phishing scam.
The 20-year-old is being questioned by officers from the Police Central eCrime Unit (PCeU) and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) after they stormed an address on the North Circular Road.
A second man, age 23, was arrested at an address in Enfield, north London.
Both addresses were raided simultaneously at 7am.
Both men are being held on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, possession of articles used in fraud an making and supplying articles to be used in fraud.
The arrests are in connection with an ongoing operation investigating the distribution of stolen financial data obtained by means of organised international crime.
In this case, the rogue phishing emails were designed to lure innocent victims into giving up their bank login details.
The details have a black market value and can be resold or used directly to carry out fraudulent transactions.
Both men, who are being held at a police station in north London, were targeted by officers follow the conviction of a foreign phisher who had several customers buying compromised logins for UK banking accounts.
Their computers and digital media have been seized for examination by the team’s digital forensic www.getsafeonline.org.
