SEATTLE — Possible misuse of grant funding from the King County Department of Community and Human Services will be referred to law enforcement for a review of potential criminal charges.
A county ombuds report released publicly Tuesday flagged $690,000 in “questionable costs” tied to 19 contracts for youth diversion and community programs. Those contracts accounted for about $12 million in grant funding and were identified as “especially concerning” in an audit of DCHS finances last year.
The ombuds report relied on a review by accounting firm Clark Nuber, which examined the 19 contracts between December 2025 and April.
The review found evidence suggesting that “waste, fraud or abuse” likely occurred and raised concerns about altered documents and conflicts of interest involving nonprofit groups funded by DCHS.
