The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that a person has plead guilty to fraud charges related to immigration in Saskatchewan. Following an investigation, Abdulkader Ali of Regina pleaded guilty to two charges related to the falsification of immigration documents on February 17. Subsequent sentencing saw Ali sentenced to two years of probation, 200 hours of community service, and a fine of $75,000.
Investigation begins
CBSA began their investigation in February 2019, after Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received a complaint from a Regina-based group called Justice Seeks.
The complaint said that Ali, while working as a refugee field worker for a local sponsorship organization, had used his position for personal gain by accepting money from refugees in exchange for promises to fast-track immigration applications. The complaint was referred to the CBSA,…
