Want to test out the iPhone 7? Have you heard there was such a thing? Boy…do I have some news for you! Plus…all kinds of phishing scams to worry about in your email inbox. AND, did you get a message your son or daughter is in a jail in a foreign country…and you didn’t know they had left the country? You HAVE to hear this!
A warning is circulating about parents getting messages about their children being arrested…and in jail in other countries. Many times these are on Facebook. If you get a message like this…do not pay any kind of money to bail them out. It’s a scam. It’s also a common phone scheme we call the grandparent scam.
The BBB is warning about fake emails or social media posts claiming Apple is looking for people to test it’s upcoming iPhone 7. To sign up, you’re told to complete a survey. Be on alert, once you get to the end of the survey, the site prompts you to enter your credit card information. Don’t do it! There is no free iPhone. Apple is not looking for iPhone 7 testers. Never trust random emails or social media posts. Always contact Apple directly. If you think you have been scammed, report it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center at IC3.gov.
WTOC viewer Kevin Samuel sent me this frantic message…”I’ve been receiving these emails about school grants from the government, it looks a lil fishy….I have not gone to the link posted….what should I do??” The answer to that is NOTHING…don’t click anything…except DELETE! These are phishing scams set up by crooks trying to lure you in and hook your info.
