Email Fraud Alert received from: Alexia
I recently received an email with this subject line: Oil and Gas Investment Opportunity and I am concerned that it could be an attempt at defrauding me. Let me know in the comments section what you think, please.
The full contents of the suspected fraudulent (phishing / scamming) e-mail appear below:
Good day,
My name is Mr. Benni Johnson, am an oil broker with over 15year of experience in the Oil and Gas sector. I bring to you and opportunity to earn big in the Oil and Gas sector of the world economy. Note that this is not a get rich quick scheme.
Our company (Global Pacific Oil and Gas) trades in Crude Oil products around the world and would like to present to you an opportunity to invest in the booming sector. Below is the break down of how the investment would go:-
When you invest $1,000 you get to earn 10% back which is about $100 within a period of two weeks. Investments above $2,000 and more attracts a return of 15%. Payments are made every two weeks. The more investment you make the more your earning increases. Like I earlier said this is not some kind of get rich quick business. However lots of people are getting richer from it. If you are interested please do reply to my email so I can let you know more about how it. Questions are welcomed.
I know how this may look as the internet seems to be filled with too many scams going on. However if you have doubt you can start with smaller investment, with a minimum of $1,000 after which when you receive your first payment within two weeks you can then decide going for a bigger investment. Your initial investment is still there if you wish not to continue with the investment. Ever wondered why you see some of your colleagues at work driving expensive cars and you keep wondering how the got the money. These are some of the kind of business they invest in or when you go to the mall during working hours and you get to see people drinking coffee everyday without doing anything and yet they keep getting richer.
Regards,
Benni Johnson

I, Alexia, have the following thoughts/comments on this suspected fraudulent email message from “Benni Johnson”:
So I went and Googled Global Pacific Oil and Gas and it didn’t appear on the fist page of results – it is accepted as pretty standard for any company to appear at the top of search results for it’s name.
Concerned, I Googled “Global Pacific Oil and Gas” and found a web site.
One would think that a successful oil investment company would have a swanky web site – the site is poor and the ‘partner’ logos are crude copy and paste versions.
No outside links to happy partners are provided.
The clincher for me is that the domain for Global Pacific Oil and Gas was only FIRST REGISTERED on 7 June 2013 – again, an investment company with a long track record would surely have registered their domain years ago?
From the Whois:

United StatesAnd to top it all, ‘Benni Johnson’ is using a free e-mail address from Yahoo and NOT a company email address.
My old Grandpa always used to say; “IF it stinks like POO, then it most probably is POO!”
