PRETORIA: – Risuna Mathye (36) appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on 04 December 2023.
This emanates from his arrest after a thorough investigation that was conducted by Pretoria based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team.
It is alleged that UNISA received an application for an Academic Qualifications Improvement Programme (AQIP) from Mathye that was approved but his Ethical Clearance certificate was outstanding.
During November 2018 it came to the attention of the Institutional Vetting Committee at UNISA that the AQIP letter signed and approved by Professor Block of the University of Cape Town was not approved for the Mathye but for someone else, which means that the letter was altered and dates were changed and does not congruent with the original letter of 2015.
The accused defrauded UNISA and UCT by falsifying a document to get funding by putting his own details with errors in the letter and uttering the letter for his own benefit.
This caused a potential prejudice to UNISA to the value of R2 491 574. 00.
The case was postponed to 16 January 2024.
