WESTERN CAPE – A 35-year-old former police reservist was arrested yesterday on charges of fraud and corruption.
It is alleged the suspect used her knowledge of police processes and procedures and impersonated a senior Hawks official to solicit money from various victims for police favours. The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team arrested her in Goodwood soon after her court appearance on a similar fraud matter, for which she was granted bail.
Several victims in Paarl, Worcester, Robertson and Montaque, allegedly paid various amounts ranging from R4500 to R14 000, believing that the suspect who paraded as a police Brigadier would expedite investigation on cases they reported to the police. She is expected to appear at Paarl Magistrates court today to face fraud and corruption charges.
