KWAZULU-NATAL – The Hawks’ members from Durban Serious Corruption Investigation arrested a 53-year-old suspect who was a Municipality Manager at Ezinqoleni before the merger of Ezinqoleni Municipality and Hibiscus Coast Municipality.
It is alleged that between November 2014 and September 2016 the suspect contravened Municipal Finance Management Act and Municipal Supply Chain Management Regulations. He allegedly failed to ensure that lawful procurement processes were complied with during the appointment of engineering service providers thereby causing undue benefits.
More than R40 million was paid to those entities. A case of fraud was reported at Ezinqoleni police station and the case docket was allocated to Hawks members for thorough investigation, as result he was arrested.
He is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate Court today.
