EASTERN CAPE – A 39-year-old quantity surveyor, Loyiso Bomvana, formerly employed at a WBHO sub-contractors’ section has been arrested on Wednesday following a Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation.
Bomvana made a brief appearance in the Serious Commercial Crime Court on the same day facing charges of alleged fraud estimated at R2.3million. The accused was responsible for the control and maintenance of the sub-contractor packages for building projects, she was also entrusted with monthly cost updates reported on sites in order to make payments to the sub-contractors.
It is alleged that during September 2018 she submitted an invoice for work ‘done’ by the sub-contractor while all work on the specific site had already stopped due to an apparent dispute with the client. She also could not provide a breakdown of the claims by this specific sub-contractor and after further investigation, it became clear that she had submitted fraudulent invoices in the guise that they were from the contracted client.
The court has granted Bomvana a R2000.00 bail and the case has been postponed to 17 September 2020.
