HOLBROOK, AZ (AZFamily) — A White Mountain Apache police officer has pleaded not guilty to several felony charges after allegedly repeatedly shoplifting at a Show Low Walmart, prosecutors announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Navajo County Attorney’s Office said Melissa Ward, 38, of Snowflake, entered her plea last Thursday. She was indicted last month on eight felony shoplifting charges and four counts of fraudulent schemes.
The investigation began back in October when the Show Low police were called to investigate a shoplifting at the big-box store off of White Mountain Boulevard.
Authorities say Ward, 37, grabbed multiple items and hid them in a black tote. She then reportedly went to self-checkout, paid for the black tote, but didn’t scan or pay for any other items inside.
White Mountain Apache PD previously said Ward was on duty, but could not confirm if she was in uniform. Prosecutors…
