In late 2025, Discovery launched a real-time security framework called TRUST Alert. It has reportedly prevented over R100 million in fraud losses to date.
| Feature | How it Works |
| AI Beneficiary Check | The system analyzes every EFT. If you pay a beneficiary that isn’t common for your profile or has been flagged by others, you get a TRUST Alert notification. |
| Defence Mode | If the system detects “unusual account activity manifesting in a serious threat,” it can instantly place your account into a secured Defence Mode, locking down high-risk actions. |
| Digital Vault | You can move your most valuable accounts into a “Vault” that requires a specific security code. |
| Panic Code | If you are forced to access your vault under duress, you can enter a custom Panic Code that silently alerts Discovery’s security team. |
IDENTIFYING COMMON “VISHING” AND “PHISHING”
“Vishing” (Voice Phishing) remains the most dangerous tactic. Scammers call you pretending to be from the Discovery Bank Fraud Department.
The typical script looks like this:
- The Call: They alert you to a “suspicious transaction” on your account.
- The Solution: To “stop” or “reverse” the payment, they ask you to approve a request on your Discovery Bank app.
- The Reality: By clicking “Approve,” you are actually authorizing a fraudulent payment or adding your card to the criminal’s digital wallet.
THE DISCOVERY “GOLDEN RULE”
Discovery Bank will NEVER ask you to approve a transaction to reverse a fraudulent one. If someone on the phone asks you to approve an app prompt to “protect your money,” hang up immediately.
PRACTICAL STEPS TO SECURE YOUR ACCOUNT
Use Virtual Cards: Create a free virtual card in the app for online shopping. It’s safer than using your physical card details.
Lower Your Limits: Keep your daily EFT and card limits low, and only increase them temporarily when you need to make a large purchase.
Trust the “Moment of Pause”: If the app sends you a TRUST Alert when paying someone, stop. Call the person you are paying on a known number to verify their banking details.
Ignore Unexpected Links: Never click a link in an SMS or email to log in to your bank or pay a fine.
