GAUTENG – A couple appeared before the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on fraud related allegations, today.
It is alleged that in July 2016 the couple, Charles Chigwedere (45) and his wife, Mary Muzeza (38) allegedly submitted fraudulent documents at the Customs for clearance purposes, declared as chemicals at the Oliver Tambo International Airport on imported shipment.
Further investigation revealed that the imported consignment which the couple allegedly declared as chemical, was later discovered to be clothing.
Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in Germiston arrested and charged the couple for fraud after they handed themselves in on 23 June 2021.
The pair appeared in court and was granted R5000 bail each and the case is postponed to 12 August 2021 for further investigation. More arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation continues.
